Events Leading up to and Day 1 in the New Apartment, in the New City, in the New State

Hello hello hello.
Those who have me on Snapchat and those who are friends with me on Facebook already know but here I am in the great state of New York. For those who know I was moving but were scarce on the details, I am in New York State, that does not mean New York City. Anyone who has known me since I turned 16, got my driving license, and then tried to never use it knows that there is no way in any level of Hades that I would drive in NYC. Yes we drove here, though to be completely forthcoming saying "we" drove is a total lie. Jeremy drove. Jeremy and I got 37 minutes of sleep leading up to the big move and then he downed four energy drinks and drove 14 hours in one day. Let me start at the beginning...

Wednesday August 10
She didn't want to get out of her box from Aunty M
Packing day was decided weeks ago. We had actually wanted to move the week before but due to issues with the apartment that needed to be remedied the lovely people at the apartment complex asked us to push our move in date. Since we like shiny new things we agreed to wait.
Now some of you know that back in October 2015 my car (my dads car) took a dirt nap and I was left without transportation at my own hand. Since my lovely partner needed (wanted) to get a new car it was agreed that I would purchase his and he would get a new one. This hand-me-down system is one that has been used many times in the course of my relationship with this man. <love you Jeremy>
This car was amazing for my life in Stevens Point. It was cheap, it ran (stubbornly), and when I didn't want to drive it work was only a 30 minute walk for me. So no big deal. I could keep going on about this car and the situation but lets just leave it at there was no way this car was going to make it the 17 hour car drive to New York, so it had to go. Lucky for me Jeremy's mother was the original owner and wanted it back anyway! (yay universe!) Not only did Mrs. Jeremy's Mom take the car of my hands thereby keeping the highways of WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, and NY safer but she also in her infinite kindness rented and drove a u-haul for us. Anyway getting ahead of myself.
August 10 was packing day, as in packing up the truck, not the boxes, or so I thought. (Jeremy don't get mad at me here and remember I love you) Now most of the apartment was packed. The bed, the couches, all big furniture went onto the truck easy as pie. The boxes that I had been packing for 2 months slid right onto the truck. The boxes that Jeremy diligently packed went right on all in one piece. The electronics that I was not allowed to pack, however, along with many random bits and pieces here and there, however, were more difficult to get onto the couch. I am NOT placing all blame on Jeremy, but I do have to give a shout out and a big ole' kudos to MB for kicking Jeremy's bootay into gear in the eleventh hour when there was no time going back. Funny thing about the eleventh hour is that this is approximately the time that Jeremy and I were finally able to leave after him, myself and MB were done packing boxes, loading them into the car (throwing away many many of our worldly possessions) and cleaning up all the rooms. That is 11pm. This doesn't sound like too terrible of a time especially to those who know about Jeremy's sleeping schedule. It is absolutely, mind numbingly, earth shattering abysmal, however, when we needed to be awake, ready to go, on the road at 2am. Suffice it to say, we were friggen zombies the next day.
37 minutes. 37. 3-7. It was only 37 minutes that we had of actual time laying in a bed attempting to sleep. This is because we got done with packing and cleaning so late and then had to drive the half hour to Mrs Jeremy's Mom's house. Once there we had to make sure our poor darling baby Amelia was okay, since she was freaking the freak out ever since packing started. Seeing her wander around our empty apartment trying to figure out where everything went was heart breaking. <spoiler alert: Amelia is now one happy kitty in the new apartment>  After taking care of the cat there was showering to be done and final paperwork issues that needed to be handled. This all left to the 37 minute nap that brings us to the next day.

Thursday August 11
FOURTEEN FRIGGEN HOURS OF DRIVING. And an hour and a half long nap for Rachel <Jeremy have I mentioned that I love you?>
FOURTEEN HOURS

Later Thursday August 11
So as I have said, Mrs. Jeremy's Mom rented a U Haul trailer for us to use. In this U Haul this wonderful woman was able to pack everything that Jeremy and I have accumulated in our 2 1/2 years together as well as all the junk we picked up PTR (prior to relationship). Seriously though the work she did on this trailer was positively stellar.
She TARDIS-ed the hell outta this thing
Along for some driving is Mrs. Jeremy's Mom's Boyfriend (MJMB). Now Mrs Jeremy's Mom and MJMB have been so generous leading up to this, renting us a u haul then driving it out with us. And it just kept coming. When we stopped at the hotel in Erie, PA for the night (a great and glorious time that was to be out of that damnable humidity) Jeremy and I were expecting to order some cheap delivery and hit the hay, but no. These two had to take us out to dinner to make sure we ate some real food. We also drank some real beer but I don't think that was a part of the plan.
Anyway dinner was pretty darn good and to sleep was nothing short of heavenly.

Friday August 12
The plan for the morning was to meet in the lobby of the hotel for breakfast at 6am. I never thought that I would consider 6am sleeping in. Most weekends for me sleeping in doesn't count unless I wake up past noon. But I was never before in my life happier with a 530 wake up call. Unfortunately technology was not on our side this morning as an issue with an alarm clock threw the schedule off slightly but nothing to worry about!!
Looking ever so well rested... pfft.
We were up an on the road by 730 (ish). To be honest with y'all my times might be slightly off in the retelling of all of this once we got into the new time zone. My phone kept up with the shift but for a little while the car was wrong and so was my wrist watch I just didn't know who to believe. Anywho... On the road! And with just a few short stops on the way and a very smelly span of time in the car for Jeremy, Amelia and I, as Amelia finally let her delicate self cave and used her in-crate litter box. It was smelly but man I have never been happier to see a cat poop.
Not happy to be stuck in the crate with the stink
This whole time packing and driving and stopping and going again we were getting a bit worried that we had blocked the cat right up, but she had to let free, and let free she did. So we suffered stoically <after a 15 minute laughing fit from Jeremy and I>.
Probably would've been a worse stink had we had a collision with this...
After 5 more hours driving it happened. Signs for Troy, NY started sprouting along the interstate. Oh what a joyous time in our lives. For me mostly because I had to pee and these signs meant soon there would be sweet sweet relief.
Jeremy and I went to the apartment first, signed our lease and finally were able to see our new apartment. It was terrifying to be sure, since moving from WI to NY meant agreeing to rent a place without the ability to physically check it out first. But holy hell did we strike gold. We knew this place was going to be 200 sq feet larger than our late place but hoo-ah. Those 200 really show. Pictures are yet to come, and this is mostly because out stuff is currently spewed every which way and I want to give everyone something prettier to look at than totes, boxes, and Jeremy and I covered in sweat after moving everything everywhere.
Mrs. Jeremy's Mom and MJMB helped us unload the truck with the assistance of some very buff very pleasant boys from the maintenance crew. After all the unpacking and the near heart attacks and bouts of heat stroke, Jeremy and I were again treated to our moving saviors' generosity as they treated us to dinner and drinks at their hotel. And then the lovely and seductive mistress came calling again, sleep.

Saturday August 13
One more meal with Mrs. Jeremy's Mom and MJMB. SO MUCH BACON. One more visit from the traveling duo at the apartment and then it was goodbye. If you two are reading I know that I said it before but thank you thank you thank you so much for all that you have done. Jeremy and I both appreciate it so much.
I promise I will show pictures of the apartment, but you all must practice some patience as I will not post any until the rooms do not look like crime scenes. Some unpacking updates, however, are as follows:
  •  when vacuuming brand new carpet it looks like half the carpet ends up in the vacuum
  • it is wise in the packing process to label all boxes, as when some are left unmarked it is very difficult to find your shit when unpacking
  • watch out for creepy little doors that are creepy and be wary when opening, we do believe we have a haunted closet in Jeremy's soon to be computer room
  • don't get overexcited about the glassware making the long ride to your destination undamaged, as you will, in your excitement, clink glasses together creating a casualty. Wine glass, you and your wine delivering talents shall never be forgotten
    RIP wineglass
  • it is good to keep hand soap in a box that you can find it quickly or else you will have to use your expensive face wash was hand wash when using the bathroom for a while
  • if you have a cat make sure to hide the crate she traveled in immediately, s/he will not trust you again until you do so
  • make sure there is a liquor store in walking distance of your new apartment, this will come in handy as the unpacking continues
  • when you are sick and tired of cleaning and need a break, a good game of scrabble helps ease any tension
Jeremy and I brought some food with us too to remind us of home (Shout out to Mama and Papa O!! Thank you so much again for our WI box, we will cherish it forever!!) One of the food items was frozen brats that we were hoping would stay frozen so we could make them when we really miss home. Well that didn't completely work out and they thawed a bit. But no worries we had them tonight and thought of WI and all the friends and family we love and miss. (Because we truly and deeply do miss all of you so much already).
WI brats cooked in NY beer. Weird buy maybe good?

He seems to think they are good.

Yupp they're good.
Truly I think we are going to love it here. And now that we have internet that hope is secured for at least another week.
   More updates to follow.

***Please please please keep me in thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes as I have yet to find a job out here!! Still looking but any good ju ju I can get on my side I will take!***
